10th Anniversary
Our Mission - The Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center strengthens the spirit, mind, and body while instilling an appreciation of our natural environment.
The Shermanator Triathlon is a fund raising event for the Community Scholarship Program
of the Sherman Lake YMCA Center in Augusta, Michigan. The race venue is the YMCA
Camp and surrounding area. You will find it to be one of the most beautiful race
venues in the region. The Shermanator celebrates it’s 9th anniversary with the 2011
event. In 2008, the decision was made to put the triathlon focus entirely on a Sprint
distance event to provide athletes and spectators with what we hope you will agree
is a World Class event.
Special thanks to our dozens of volunteers. We could not put this event together to support the Sherman Lake YMCA Community Scholarship program without their tremendous efforts.

What a great day for the 2011 Shermanator. Dozens of great stories with athletes developing their pursuit of lifelong fitness. And a supersonic field with the top 20 overall going sub 60 minutes.
The 2012 Shermanator features individual and relay divisions for the triathlon. New
for 2012 are duathlon and aquabike divisions.
The 5K previously held concurrent
with the Shermanator is being separated from the multisport activities. We are reviewing
options to hold a 5K Run/Walk at the Sherman Lake YMCA later in the fall. Updates
on that will be posted soon.
Gazelle Sports is offering its popular tri•zelle training program again this year with training sites in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. Both are geared to prepare you for the Shermanator. Go here to get more information and register.
We are ready with a potential change for the bike course for the 2012 event. Our
normal sprint course has us going north on 37th St. From “G” Ave. to the
5 mile mark
turnaround at Crane’s Pond. However, 37th is being tore up and entirely rebuilt
this summer. There is no way for us to know if it will be finished in time. So the
alternate route, which we fully anticipate using, will be to go south on 37th from
“G” to alongside the Galesburg-Augusta High School property near M-96 to the 5 mile
turnaround, and then back. We’ll keep you updated on the progress. The Kalamazoo
County Road Commission and Ross Township will also be working together on pavement
improvements along 39th Street from the YMCA main entrance to “G” Ave. this year.
Welcome to the 2012 Shermanator
This is our 10th Anniversary!
